Dimitris is the co-founder of Edinburgh Translators. He has been working as professional medical and technical Greek translator since 2005 and has collaborated with several large corporations and translation agencies, specialising mainly in medical and pharmaceutical texts and also all things IT. Dimitris holds an MSc (with distinction) in Translation and CAT Tools (Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK) and a Diploma in Translation. He is also SDL Trados Certified (Advanced Level), a full member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (MCIL) and an Associate of the UK Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI). Carrie is the co-founder of Edinburgh Translators and handles French projects. She has been working as freelance translator since 2008. She obtained her postgraduate degree in translation from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh (MSc with Distinction in Translation and CAT Tools) having previously graduated from the University of Aberdeen School of Law (LLB with honours, Law and Belgian Law). Carrie has previously worked in finance and public policy, both in the UK and abroad, and has extensive experience translating in the areas of policy, law and finance. She is particularly well versed in the translation of contracts and business materials. Marwa Shamy is a translator and conference interpreter for Arabic, English and German. She graduated in 2008 with an M.A. in Translation with distinction from the School of Translation and Interpreting Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies in Germersheim, Johannes-Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany. In 2009 she obtained an MSc in Arabic-English Translating and Conference Interpreting with distinction from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. She is currently working on a Ph.D. in Simultaneous Interpreting Didactics. Marwa worked at the GIZ (German International Cooperation) in Eschborn, Germany and gained experience in working with SDL Trados, proofreading and formatting of Arabic translations. She collaborated with various agencies in Germany and the UK. Her clients include the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the German International Gooperation (GIZ).
Our professional English-German translator, Karoline Spiessl, has been working as freelance translator since 2008. She obtained her qualifications at the University of Mainz/Germersheim, Germany (M.A. in Translation Studies) and at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh (MSc with Distinction in Translation and Conference Interpreting). In addition to translating, Karoline has held the role as Senior SEO Account Manager with Edinburgh based company bigmouthmedia/LBi for 2.5 years and is an expert in all things digital and online marketing – from SEO to PPC, Social Media, website localisation and more. Further fields of specialisation include medical/pharmaceutical texts, user manuals, sports, communications, agriculture and tourism. Karoline is an Associate of the UK Institute of Translation and Interpreting and translates for non-profit organisation Translators Without Borders.
Angélica Gómez holds a BA and an MSc in Translation and Conference Interpreting from Heriot-Watt University. She is an Associate of the ITI and both a translator and a conference interpreter working from English into Spanish. During her 5-year professional career she has gained the experience to handle a wide variety of documents. Her main fields of expertise are medicine, genetics, pharmacy, marketing and tourism. She has collaborated and continue to work with major pharmaceutical and research companies translating clinical trial protocols, medical abstracts, marketing material, and other relevant documents. She also works with the National Health Service (NHS) providing public service interpreting. She provides consistency, accuracy and reliability with the focus on quality and customer satisfaction.
Agnese has been working as a professional freelance translator and subtitler (English to Italian, Spanish to Italian) for four years now. Her specialisations are in audiovisual translation and media accessibility. She handles translation, adaptation and revision projects of interlingual subtitling and Subtitling for the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing (SDH) for the DVD market, broadcasting and international film festival industry. Additional areas of specialisation for translation: environment and ecology; gastronomy and oenology; tourism; arts, theatre and opera; and informatics and technology. She is Full Member of the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation and Professional Member of the Subtitlers’ Association. She holds a BA in Language Mediation and a MA in Modern Languages for Interpreters and Translators, both with distinction, from the University of Macerata (Italy). She currently is a PhD student at the same university with a project on media accessibility.
