Q&A about Financial Translation

Why should I hire professional translators and not just use Google Translate for my financial document?

It's a proven fact nowadays that Machine Translation and Quality have nothing to do with each other. If you want your text to be of just acceptable quality or you want a very rough translation for internal communication within your company, then Machine Translation is the way to go. But If your text is intended for clients/customers/users/the public domain, then you wouldn't want to risk the reputation of your company/product, by asking your clients/customers to read 'nonsense'.

Which languages do you offer financial translation in?

The main language combinations we offer for financial translation are German, French, Spanish, Greek, Italian, Arabic and Russian from and into English. However, we have access to a large network of competent linguists and we can cater for other language combinations at the request of our client.

We use a lot of company-specific terminology. Can you incorporate this into the translation?

Feel free to provide any reference material such as glossaries and previous translations (for example, previous annual reports) that you would like us to take into account. We use specialist translation memory tools that enable the translator to achieve consistency with previous translations.

Can you translate our annual report so that the language is consistent with previous years’ reports?

Absolutely. As mentioned above, you may provide any reference materials that you would like us to take into account. This could be anything from a previous translated annual report to an industry-specific glossary of terms which we will incorporate. Furthermore, our use of translation memory software enables us to create consistent translations year upon year, using the same terminology as before.

The layout of the source document is very important for my project. Will you be able to retain it in your translation?

Of course! The best result will be achieved if you provide us with readily editable documents (e.g. doc, docx, txt, Indesign source files etc.). However, even If your document is a heavily formatted PDF, we will use the appropriate technique (OCR, Desktop Publishing software) in order to reproduce its layout in our translation.

How will I know that the translator/s working on my text are competent enough for the task?

You can see a brief overview of our colleagues' professional and academic background backgrounds on the Our Team page. We can also send you full details of the linguists working on your documents.

How can I contact you for a quote on my financial translation project?

You can use the dedicated quote form or simply send us all the relevant details to us at info@edinburghtranslators.co.uk, including word count, source document format, intended use/target audience, desired delivery date and last but not least, the document itself for a thorough evaluation.
